Insomniacs is a concept borne out of the desire to tackle an issue and deal decisively with it or literally no-one goes to sleep. It is loosely based upon the rapper Nas’ depiction of the Greek Gods Hypnos (Sleep) and Thanatos (Death) in his song “N. Y. State of Mind”.
“I never sleep, ’cause sleep is the cousin of death.”
— Nas, “N. Y. State of Mind”
Insomniacs exploits the cultural depiction of “Nerds”, particularly code writers burning the candlelight and failing to sleep before a perfect script has been written.
In simple translation, Insomniacs intends to rally the various facets of untapped Information Technology resources in the Zimbabwean community to discuss, network and proffer solutions to present day problems. Beyond discussions, Insomniacs intends to activate the numerous ideas and innovations including white papers and proposals in order to expose the competence of the Zimbabwean Technology community in creating alternative solutions.
We are firm believers in the United Nations Global Access to Information which advocates for the right “to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers”. We believer through volunteering of Information, rather than the perception that one’s ideas may be ‘stolen’; we are able as a community to sharpen the resultant product. In fact, an idea that is common enough to be claimed cannot be true innovation. We believe in meritable pioneering and the awarding of credit where due.
What we are not.
We are not a news editorial. – We are not a technology news site or a magazine. While we may find relevancy in dwelling on current and trending news, we will equally give importance to past and future areas of common convergence. While we also ascribe to the artistry of the use of English, we will dwell much beyond using it as a language for communication.
We are not a tech hub. – While we will work with technology hubs and probably meet up at any of the existing establishments, we are not a technology hub at this particular stage in time.
We are not an authority. – The opinions in our content are not authoritative. We are a platform for the exchange of ideas.
